RESOLUTION NO. GB-2000-14
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE REDUCTION OF TOXIC PESTICIDES AND
HERBICIDES USED ON DISTRICT PROPERTY.
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Stinson Beach County Water District has read a
reviewed the current Resolution No. GB-88-12, which supports the reduction of toxic pesticides and
herbicides used by Cal Trans along Highway One, in West Marin; and
WHEREAS, the Board is prepared to establish limits for the use of toxic pesticides and
herbicides on properties owned by the District; and
WHEREAS, the Board is concerned with the health and safety of its employees and the
residents of Stinson Beach and is therefore supportive of community effort to restrict the use of
hazardous chemicals in the community of Stinson Beach and supports education that seeks to make
the public aware of alternatives to toxic pesticides and herbicides; and
WHEREAS, the Board supports the intent and procedural requirements specified by CEQA
(California Environmental Quality Act) for State Agency conformance as to safety, public health, and
the development of alternative methods to toxic herbicides and pesticides; and
WHEREAS, the Board is aware of the special nature and geographical setting of our west
Marin shoreline, with its trails, parks, reservoirs, wetlands, wildlife, habitat, schools and marine shell
and fish life on Bolinas Lagoon - all of which require full use of alternatives to toxic herbicides and
pesticides;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE STINSON BEACH COUNTY
WATER DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS, hereby supports elimination of toxic herbicides
and pesticides used on District Property by District personnel and that it is further resolved that the
District will seek alternative solutions to toxic herbicides and pesticides to control weed abatement
and control of vermin and pests upon it's property and in every case use the least toxic alternative
reasonably available.
